PhD Candidate - bjhasty@asu.edu
I’m a first year PhD student interested in astrobiology, specifically questions surrounding the origin of life and its co-evolution with the environment over time. With the goal of synthesizing various geological/biological techniques, I hope to improve my skill set as a planetary scientist and be able to apply such concepts to better evaluate and understand the complex history of life on Earth, as well as potentially apply that knowledge to extraterrestrial environments. I am currently exploring the various applications of Mercury isotope geochemistry, whose unique fractionation processes may provide insight into early earth environments, mass extinction events, and obstacles to the evolution of life.
Outside of research I love to play and watch soccer, and am also passionate about weightlifting and hip-hop. I have a pet gecko I affectionately call Ghostface, after a member of the Wu-Tang Clan.
